Outline (in English)

This class is for students who have JLPT N2 or equivalent proficiency in the Japanese language (a two-credit course). The course introduces various media (documentaries, dramas, movies, etc.) and discusses the content and social and cultural issues surrounding these works. Students are expected to use the dramas and films introduced in class to create mini dramas and practice acting in Japanese.
【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students will be expected to have developed the following: 1) language skills (listening comprehension, summarizing skills, essay witting skills, discussion skills, the ability to express opinions, the ability to create presentations, etc.); 2) analytical skills with media works; and 3) the ability to express their feelings and emotions in Japanese through acting presentations.
【Learning Activities outside of Classroom】
Students will be given weekly assignments that they will be expected to complete by the due dates set by the instructor. Your study time will be about four hours for each class meeting.
【Grading Policy】
・Grading will be decided on the basis of the following:
In-class Contribution: 20%
Assignments: 30%
Mid-term Exam: 20%
Final Presentation: 30%
・No credit will be given to students who are absent more than three times.
・Students who want to take the course must attend the first and second class sessions. Those who fail to do so cannot take the course.
・Students who are absent more than three times can not take the mid-term exam.
