Outline (in English)

The aim of this seminar is to help students to understand characteristics of human resource management in Japanese firms. It is said that seniority-based wage system, lifetime employment and enterprise union are three main characteristics of Japanese HRM. However, when we carefully investigate statistics and practices of HRM in other countries, we can observe many similarities of HRM. We have to know real situations of HRM in Japanese companies.
At the end of this seminar, students are expected to know the real pictures of HRM in Japanese companies.
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than three hours for a class.
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process; contribution to discussions in every class 60%, participation and contribution to activities outside classroom 30%, final report of the class 10%.
