Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
As the world gets globalized, firms cross the national borders. Those including small- and medium-sized firms and startups are getting more engaged in international business. That is, global business strategy is an integral part of the strategic management. However, because of differences between the foreign markets and the home market, firms often fail to gain competitive advantages.
This course introduces students to key concepts and frameworks of international business studies. Students will understand how firms gain competitive advantages in foreign markets, and acquire a skill to analyze firms' success and failure in foreign markets.
(Learning objectives)
The goal of this course is to understand basics of global business strategy, which includes foreign subsidiary staffing, global strategic alliance, and standardization and localization strategies. Students are also expected to understand the theoretical foundation of global business strategy. At the end of this course, students are expected to develop an ability to analyze firms' success and failure in foreign countries.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Students are required to complete assignments, read materials, and review the notes they took. Time for preparatory study and review for this class will be at least 2 hours each.
(Grading Criteria/Policies)
Students will be evaluated on term-end examination (100%). In-class exercises are added to term-end examination as bonus points.
