Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
The purpose of this class is to understand international transactions conducted in Japan and other countries and to focus how such transactions have changed these economies by using theoretical analysis tools and various materials. In International Economics I, we will learn the basic and fundamental structures of trade and international movement of labor and capital, and in International Economics II, we will learn trade policies and the international economic system theoretically and historically.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students will be expected to:
(1)Understand key trade models.
(2)Understand key concepts with respect to trade.
(3)Analyze and evaluate daily life topics and current and past news topics from the viewpoint of trade theory and policy.
(4)Solve problem sets.
(5)Read newspaper articles written in English.

【Learning activities outside of classroon】
Students are expected to download, print out, and read assigned handouts before class and do homework after class. Preparatory study and review time for this class are 2 hours each.

Office hours may occasionally be held during the first period of Thursday. Although these are for master's students, undergraduate students are also welcome to participate.

【Grading Criteria】
Homework and Exercises: 40%
Final Examination: 60%
