Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】
The purpose of learning international management is to understand the reality of corporate management that is promoting globalization, and to show how to avoid management failure from a social scientific perspective. International management theory is a general term for the study of problems associated with the internationalization of corporate management and how they can be solved. Students learn about the challenges of corporate management by studying a wealth of case studies, including Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Nissan Motor, Rakuten, and Uniqlo. What kind of companies are developing products overseas or conducting international marketing? How should Japanese multinational corporations act in the face of challenges such as currency depreciation competition among nations and cross-border human resource management? We will learn the basic concepts for thinking about these issues.
【Learning Objectives】
This course aims to provide students with the basic knowledge needed to be active in international business in the future, and to understand it in relation to management theory. This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the specialized areas of marketing and human resource management. Students will learn how multinational corporations have influenced modern society, and how the politics, economics, culture, and history of countries around the world have influenced multinational corporations. The goal of this course is to have fun learning theories about multinational corporations. The goal is to be able to read newspaper articles in Japanese and English on international management, examine the content of management theory as a "way of looking at things," and apply the theory and insights of international business to reality. In this class, the management activities of multinational corporations as represented by exports, direct investment, and licensing will be explained. We will use supplementary materials such as PowerPoint and videos, while making sure that students are taking notes. In business, it is necessary to take notes and organize themselves for conversations and negotiations in sales offices, instructions from superiors in the company, and making memos of meetings. Participating students will also do group work and read aloud to confirm their understanding of technical terms. Students will learn business terms and check their English skills by reading English texts from various sources.
【Learning Activities Outside of Classroom】
The standard preparation time for this class is 2 hours. The standard review time for this class is 2 hours. You need 4 hours in total. Before participating in the class, students should read the relevant sections of the textbook "International Management, Revised Edition" and look up any terms they do not understand. It is necessary to understand the contents of newspaper articles in Japanese and English whenever they are distributed.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Grading will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of the following items. 
(1) Mid-term exam (assigned report or in-class exam) (30%)
(2) Responses to assignments/homework (submitted through the class support system or reports) (10%)
(3) Final exam (assigned report or in-class written exam) (60%)
It is recommended that you attend every class in order to get a good grade.
