Outline (in English)

The role of public services in the local autonomy in the 21st century has expanded to the private sector, and the division of roles between the administration and the private sector has changed significantly in japan. At the same time, with the declining birthrate and aging population and the declining population becoming a social issue, the local government take responsibility to keep the area sustainable while making predictions about the future.
In this class students will learn the basic knowledge of local government as a `` Citizen '', the main character of a local government, and to acquire the ability to think independently about the future of local government.
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
-A. To acquire basic knowledge about the history, theory, and system of local autonomy
-B. To acquire an citizenship literacy that allows you to understand the recent movements of local government and make decisions based on your own consideration.
The standard preparatory study and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
Students will be expected to collect information such as searching for newspaper articles related to the content taken up in the class and check the situation of the municipality where you live. Read newspaper articles routinely that are considered be related to the local governments.
Your overall grade will be decided based on the following
Term-end essay exam (80%), short reports or in-class reaction papers (20%).The term-end exam may change to the report according to the university's class implementation policy. It will be informed by the learning support system of any changes.
