Outline (in English)

In this course students will have a chance to acquire the ability to learn the basic grammar and vocabulary by reading "Wuthering Heights". At the end of the course, students are expected to read easy English sentences without using a dictionary. Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than an hour for a class. Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following. Term-end examination: 60%, Short reports: 30%, in class contribution: 10%.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

英語の読解能力を向上させるために、イギリスの小説『嵐が丘』を読み、読解に必要な基本の文法知識と語彙を身に付ける。この授業の最終目的は辞書を使わずに平易な英文を読むことができる文法能力と語彙力を獲得することである。

到達目標Goal

この授業では二つのことを目標とします。すなわち、1）語彙を増やし文法知識を身につける。2）平易な英文を辞書を使わずに読むことができる。この二つの目標到達のために学生諸君は基本英文法の確認は随時行い、基本重要英単語は常に覚える必要がある。

英文を通して小説の内容を深く理解するために、必要に応じてグループ・ディスカッションを行います。課題を授業終了時に毎回課しますが、次回授業時には課題の解説と講評行い、小説への理解を深めていきます。また小説を読むにあたって必要な文化的背景も適宜説明していきます。DVDは小説を読み進めた箇所まで鑑賞し、その表現方法の違いを議論します。
