Outline (in English)

This course aims to improve students' overall English skills with a focus on reading. In this course, students will review basic grammar and build up vocabulary through close reading of contemporary novels.

By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
-To be able to understand the written content more correctly
-Understand the meaning of words and be able to pronounce them correctly
-To get used to reading a large amount of English text

Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend 3 hours to understand the course content Experiment/Practice.

Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
in class contribution: 50%、Assignments: 20%、Term-end examination: 30%

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

リーディングを中心に、総合的な英語力の向上を目指します。基本的な文法を復習しながら、英語圏の作者が書いた現代小説を精読し、読解力の強化をはかります。新しく知った単語やフレーズが、小説のなかでどんなふうに使われているか理解することで、語彙を増やし定着させていきます。

到達目標Goal

・文法に注目して英文を読むことで、書かれている内容をより正しく理解することができる。
・英単語の意味を理解し、正しく発音できるようになる。
・まとまった量の英語の文章を読むことに慣れる。

・テーマとなる文法の復習
・語彙チェック：課題の範囲に出てきた英単語やフレーズをいくつかピックアップし、発音と、テキストで使われている意味を答えてもらいます。知らない単語は、発音と日本語の意味を調べてきてください。
・テキスト読解と翻訳：毎回の課題として指定された範囲の訳を準備し、提出してもらいます。数名の方を指名して質問しながら、テキストを読み解いていきます。課題は、翌週の授業で詳しい解説とフィードバックを行います。
