Outline (in English)

Behaviours and phenomena concerning “organisations” emerge as a result of various elements complicatedly being intertwined. Management Organisation Theory offers the conceptual tools for deeply understanding of those behaviours and phenomena.

In this course, by using the conceptual tools of Management Organisation Theory, we carry out both theoretical and practical analyses into the behaviours and phenomena of business organisations in the modern society, in particular focusing on the following five themes; 1) individual behaviours in organisations, 2) group behaviours in organisations, 3) organisational structures, 4) organisational cultures, and 5) organisational change.

The main objectives of this course are the following three; 1) to deepen our understanding of the concepts of Management Organisation Theory enough to explain both individual/group behaviours in Japanese business organisations and the contexts in which those behaviours are situated, 2) to sharpen our insights into various aspects of business organisations in the context of the modern society in Japan, and 3) to find meaningful research questions in order to deepen our understanding of the modern business organisations in relation to the five themes mentioned above.
