Outline (in English)

This subject has four main points. The first point is that the period covers from the Perry's arrival in 1853 to today of the 21st century. In that period Japan experienced two significant changes. The first change is to make herself a modern state as a constitutional monarchy from a feudal state. The second one is to make herself again a democratic state of the sovereignty of the people. The second point is that students study basic facts as to the changes above focusing on the Japanese domestic affairs. The third one is students study the affairs on the international relations which promoted those Japan's changes above. And the fourth is that each of the students gets his/her own viewpoint and narrative as to the Japan's modernization.
