Outline (in English)

This course will focus on the Theravada Buddhist thoughts in everyday life. Theravada Buddhist societies are located in mainland Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka and southwest China. In these lectures, we will focus not only on the Buddhist philosophy written in texts, but also on ideas of Theravada Buddhists by paying close attention to how they practice themselves every day. Furthermore, we will explore the relationship between Japanese society and Theravada Buddhism through visual materials including photos and documentary videos.
