Outline (in English)

The objective of this course is to provide you with the basic understanding of how you can conduct contrastive studies between Japanese, English, and other languages. Language is indeed a key to understanding various topics in our Graduate School. There are, however, many difficult technicalities in the research field of linguistics, to the extent that they become really high hurdles. So, this course hopefully works as an easy introduction to that research field. In this semester, we are going to do this by reading some of the basic literature related to the fields other than phonetics.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

　日本語・英語や他の言語を比較対照しながら言語研究の仕方を学んでいくことが，本授業のテーマです．国際文化研究科の研究には様々な点で言語との関係が切っても切れないものが多いですが，言語の研究法についてはテクニカルなところがあり，なかなか理解が難しいのが現実です．本授業では，それを克服すべく，基本的な文献を読みながら，主に音声研究以外の言語研究の基本を固めていきます．

到達目標Goal

１）言語研究の基本的な概念や方法論に習熟すること．
２）その概念，方法論を様々な言語に適用させ，より広い一般化の道筋を模索していくこと．
３）外国語（特に英語）で文献を読むのに慣れていくこと．

授業の進め方と方法Method(s)（学期の途中で変更になる場合には、別途提示します。 /If the Method(s) is changed, we will announce the details of any changes. ）

　授業は演習形式で行います．授業では学生にどんどん意味を問いかけていき，教材を日本語にしていってもらいます．この際，重要なのは，

１）全員が担当箇所を前もってひと通り読んでおくこと，
２）分からない場合，積極的に質問したり，意見を出し合うこと，

の2点です．

　課題や授業内容については，「学習支援システム」を用いて，基本的に事後に詳細なコメントを担当者が出しますので，それをさらなる研究等に活かしてください．

　最終授業だけでなく，中途でも，折を見て，フィードバックの時間を設けますので，内容についての質問等には随時対処していきます．
