Outline (in English)

This course surveys the history and current state of industrial relations in the United States, Australia and Sweden. The course examines institutional features of industrial relations in these countries and compares them to such features of Japanese industrial relations.
The objective of comparative studies in social sciences is to learn social systems of different countries, and to explore what we can learn from their institutional histories when making a comparison of social systems between Japan and these countries. Here in this course, students will learn industrial relations systems of the three countries (the US, Australia and Sweden). By so doing, they will learn how to analyze problems and issues of industrial relations in Japan from a broader perspective.
