Outline (in English)

Through the current situation and history of Okinawa, where many US military bases are still concentrated, we will learn about Japan's security policy, relations with the Asia-Pacific islands, and the process of forming the people's will of Okinawa against the construction of a new base in Henoko. During the Pacific War, Okinawa was forced into a ground battle involving residents as a waste stone of the "mainland decisive battle" by the Japanese army, and suffered severe war damage that killed one in four citizens of the prefecture. Since it was under the administration of the United States until it returned to Japan in 1972, about 70% of the US military bases in Japan are concentrated. By learning about Okinawa, we can see the direction of the US Asian strategy, the relationship between Japan and the Korean Peninsula and China, and the diplomatic strategy that Japan should aim for in the future.
