Outline (in English)

Welding, Joining and Casting are key fabrication technology contributing a basic industry of Japan (so-called “Monozukuri”). This course is to help students acquire an understanding of the fundamental principles of these technologies to understand appropriate engineering preventing failure and fracture.
As case studies, Aerospace craft, Ship, Railway, Storage, Bridge, Steel penstocks, Floodgate, Automobile, Power plant, Petroleum and chemical plant are mentioned. Outline of these history, type of products, material are introduced with applied Welding & Joining technology or Casting technology.
Concurrently, this course deals with the outline of steel materials for structure including welding wire, material for casting, practical design method and functional assessments of welded joint, quality control & quality assurance, and nondestructive inspection.
