Outline (in English)

Recently, a number of non-metal materials have been applied to machinery as structural components. This course aims at learning the properties and performance as well as processing methods for manufacturing of the non-metal materials. The scope of this course includes specifically polymer and ceramic materials among a wide variety of non-metal materials. The goal of the course includes:
(1) Understanding the basic concept of classifying the materials into metal, non-metal and composite materials,
(2) Understanding the basic structures, mechanical properties and molding methods of polymer materials, and
(3) Understanding the basic characteristics and typical applications of ceramic materials.
The student’s overall grade will be based on the following criteria:
- Term-end examination: 100%
This course will be taught in Japanese.
