Outline (in English)

Service engineering is an engineering discipline concerned with methodologies and technologies that are useful for improving service productivity and value co-creation through services. Of course, services here are not limited to in-person customer service, but also include the provision of functions via products and software. In recent years, the digitalization of the socio-economy has been progressing, and services are evolving by connecting with each other. The purpose of this class is to acquire service literacy that attempts to comprehend what services are, including the peripheral contents of humanities and sociology, through the understanding of various methods in service engineering.
The topics of service engineering include service design by applying engineering design, application of various mathematical methods to services, technical support for service cites, and servitization of manufacturing industries. In all of these cases, the basic focus is on the satisfaction and experience of the user, but there are approaches that not only support the activities of the provider to create the service, but also try to enhance co-creation through active support for the user. In this class, after organizing the differences in these approaches as Service Engineering 1.0/2.0, several lecturers will give lectures on each topic (theme). Then, students will deepen their understanding through discussions among themselves.
