Outline and objectives

This course aims to develop communicative competence necessary to function in a variety of situations encountered in business. Students will learn key phrases and grammar related to the business topics covered in each unit. The students will also develop their listening comprehension skills by listening to interviews with business people and short talks. The students will also practice using this knowledge by taking part in role plays and end of unit case discussions. The students will learn and practice how to summarize their case discussions in the form of email correspondence.

Goal

This course aims to develop communicative competence necessary to understand what others say, state their opinions through role plays and case discussions, and briefly summarize the results of their discussions in written form for a variety of situations encountered in business.

The first day of class will be held on April 21, 2020 via Zoom at the normal class time: 1:40 pm. Please refer to the announcement on Hoppii for the URL and login details.

This course will make use of pair work, group work, and discussion skills in concordance with the textbook. Vocabulary development and listening comprehension will be stressed. After completing the case discussion at the end of each unit, the students will be expected to submit a written summary of their discussions.

Feedback on submitted assignments and quizzes will be given at the beginning of the next class.
