Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
Learn the beginning of linear algebra which is essential knowledge for science and engineering students.

1) Learn how to calculate vectors and matrices and understand the application to simultaneous linear equations.
2) Know concepts such as regular matrix and rank, and understand equivalence condition of being regular matrix.

(Learning Objectives)
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1) Students understand determinants, inverse matrices, the rank of matrices, and solving simultaneous linear equations and acquire sufficient computational skills.
2) Students understand why simultaneous linear equations can be solved and the inverse matrix is obtained by the elementary operations for matrices.
3) Students understand the relationship among regular matrices, solving simultaneous equations, and the rank of matrices.

(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend one hour to understand the course content.
Students are encouraged to prepare for the textbook and solve the exercises (or assignments) corresponding to the previous lesson.

(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
Short reports 30%, Term-end examination 70%.
