Outline (in English)

<Course outline>
We examine the theory and the jurisprudence about Judicial Review from the viewpoint of the garantie of the Constitution and the protection of Human rights.Furthermore, in terms of human rights protection, the issues posed by the application of the Convention on Human Rights in the Courts will be discussed in relation to the globalization of constitutionalism and justice.
We also consider the jurisprudence of the European Human Rights Court and also that of foreign countries.
<Learning Objectives>
The purpose of the lecture is to understand the question in the modern constitutional theory, and discover the path to solution itself.You will develop an understanding of the issues raised by contemporary constitutional law and by the Japanese Constitution - constitutional reform, pacifism, parliamentary democracy, discrimination, etc. - and the ability to think for yourself about the solutions.
<Learning activities outside of classroom>
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
<Grading Criteria/Policy>
Grading will be decided based on the quality of the students’ contribution in the class.
