Outline (in English)

This course will provide students with an introduction to forensic psychology for lawyers. Students will learn about eyewitness testimony, forensic interview, statement credibility assessment, group decision making in citizen judge (saiban-in) system, counseling and crisis intervention for victims. Special attention will be given to understanding of vulnerable nature of human mental processes such as memory distortion in eyewitness testimony, suspect's suggestibility, biases in legal decision making, and PTSD.
The goal of this course is to enable students to understand psychological issues that arise in the field of law from a more multifaceted perspective, not only from the standpoint of legal practice and research but also from the standpoint of human science. Students are expected to read the relevant literature in the list of references distributed in the first class after completing each part of the course to gain a deeper understanding of the topic.
Students are required to submit a report at the end of the semester in which they comment on the lecture content from the perspective of legal practice, which will be used as the main material for evaluation (80%). The evaluation will be determined by a combination of this and ordinary points (20%).
