Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】
We will learn the rules of conflict of laws by analyzing legal issues and will understand which laws of jurisdiction should be applied to each case. By referring to both academic discussions and practical application, we will try to deepen our understanding on global legal issues and the rules of conflict of laws.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to (i) understand the Japanese statutory rules of conflict of laws, i.e., the "Act on General Rules for Application of Laws," (ii) analyze legal issues of cross-boarder civil cases and (ii) apply appropriate laws to each case.

【Learning Activities Outside of Classroom】
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the relevant chapter from the text. Your required study time is about two hours for each class meeting.

【Grading Criteria/Policy】
Your overall grade will be decided based on the following
Term-end examination: 80%、in class contribution: 20%
