Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This seminar will examine several emerging issues on human rights in contemporary society and explore how these issues can be solved not only by adjudications made by the court, but also through policies of state and local government.
【Learning Objectives】
At the end of the course, students are expected to properly analyze contemporary cases and controversies on human rights and to present proper way of legal and political solutions about those cases and controversies.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the relevant chapter from the text and the relevant opinion papers by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations. Your required study time is at least four hours for each class meeting.
【Grading criteria/Policies】
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Term-end report:50% , mid-term reports and presentation:50%
