Outline (in English)

Today is the era of data, network and platform. Platform players, such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple (GAFA) have established ecosystems, been enjoying huge network effects, and grown dramatically. New players such as Uber and Airbnb, have formed sharing economies without owning considerable assets. Those platform players take different strategies from the ones of traditional business strategies. This course covers those topics through lectures, case studies and individual & group exercises.

Through the lectures, you can obtain the following skills:
1. Understand basic principles of platform businesses, driven by GAFA, Uber, Airbnb, etc..
2. Capability to design a new platform, and to plan its successful launch.
3. Ability to discuss platform strategy

Grading criteria are followings:
(1) Class contributions: 23%
(2) Pre-class quizzes for cases: 32% (8% * 4)
(3) Individual exercise:: 20%
(4) Group exercise: 25%
