Outline (in English)

[Learning Objectives] Here we read Bertrand Russell's "The Problems of Philosophy" and we reflect philosophically on the knowledges which appear to be true. We examine our knowledges about the things of which we believe the reality. Through our examinations we enlarge our true knowledges and make ourselves bigger than ever. This is an important condition for the communication with others on the basis of our common knowledges. That's why we must get deep insight on our knowledges through our inquiry into them.
[Course Outline] We will add philosophical reflections on the knowledge I believe I have. They are in the following order: 1. why do I believe that tables exist; 2. why do I believe that the external world exists; 3. why is the space that science deals with not private; 4. why are there ideas that are not private; 5. why can description take us beyond private experience; 6. why are there limits to inductive knowledge; 7. why is there non-experiential knowledge; 8. why is the law of contradiction not just a law of thought; 9. why universals are not merely mental; 10. why intuitive knowledge is necessary; 11. why true knowledge must correspond to facts; 12. why philosophy and science are distinct; 13. why the expansion of what is not the ego brings satisfaction?
[Grading Criteria /Policy] The final grade will be based on the credit examinations, but the content of the previously submitted reports will be taken into consideration in the evaluation.
