Outline (in English)
（Course outline）
This course examines the modern era of Japan with a focus on the Imperial Diet.In particular, I will focus on the character of the House of Peers and the role it played in history. What is particularly important in this course is the correct and historical understanding of the development of modern Japanese history and constitutional politics.
（Learning Objectives）
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
－A.Understanding modern Japanese history through the development of constitutional politics.
－B.Deepening understanding of the role of the Imperial Diet centered on the House of Peers.
－C.Get clues to think about the continuity of history.
（Learning activities outside of classroom）
Students should read the materials distributed in advance.Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Term-end examination: 60%, in class contribution: 40%

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
日本近代史を、立憲政治の観点から、立法府を中心に読み解いていく。帝国議会は貴族院と衆議院により構成されるが、本講義では、特に貴族院に注目して考察をはかる。授業を通じて、実証研究の蓄積が学問領域に新たな地平を開くことを明らかにしていく。
到達目標Goal
①日本近代史を立憲政治の観点から理解する。②帝国議会を構成する貴族院・衆議院について、特に前者の役割について理解を深める。③歴史の連続性について考える手がかりを得る。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
事前に配布する資料には必ず目を通しておく。授業後には内容をよく確認し、指示のあった文献や資料に目を通しておく。平素より参考文献を読んでおくことが望ましい。本授業の準備・復習時間は、各２時間を標準とする。
テキスト（教科書）Textbooks
特定のテキストは用いない。参照が必要な文献等がある場合には、講義の際、指示する。

『議会制度百年史』全12巻、『貴族院』（同成社）
成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
平常点（40％）、期末試験（60％）をもとに総合的に評価する。期末試験はノート持ち込み可。なお、特別の事情がなく、授業への参加度が不良と判断された場合、あるいは期末試験を受けない場合には不合格の評価とする。

・「日本近代史料学」（秋学期）との継続履修を推奨する。
・大学院における学部合同科目（「日本近代史研究」Ⅰ）である。
・やむを得ない事情により授業を欠席する場合（介護体験実習、教育実習など）には、その事情を証明する文書を提出すること。新型コロナウイルス感染防止策として教室での対面授業を行わない場合には、授業内容を変更することがある。
・授業に関連する連絡は、学習支援システムの「お知らせ」サイトや、「授業内掲示板」サイトを利用して行うので、見落とさないようにすること。
・担当教員への直接連絡にはメールを利用すること。担当教員のメールアドレスは、学習支援システムに掲示する。
