Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
This course examines the modern era of Japan with a focus on the Imperial Diet.In particular, I will focus on the character of the House of Peers and the role it played in history. What is particularly important in this course is the correct and historical understanding of the development of modern Japanese history and constitutional politics.
(Learning Objectives)
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
-A.Understanding modern Japanese history through the development of constitutional politics.
-B.Deepening understanding of the role of the Imperial Diet centered on the House of Peers.
-C.Get clues to think about the continuity of history.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Students should read the materials distributed in advance.Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
Term-end examination: 60%, in class contribution: 40%
