Outline (in English)

This course is designed to impart basic knowledge about "English" literature, and about studying English literature. Students learn historical and geographical backgrounds, learn critical approaches and tools to read literary texts, and learn to create their own texts, including essays.
[Learning activities outside of classroom:] Before/after each class meeting, students are expected to spend 2 hours respectively to understand the course content.
[Grading Criteria/Policy:] Overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
1) Participation and discussion (reaction papers and occasional mini tests) (20%)
2) A couple of papers ("reports") (20%)
2) End-of-term examination (60%)
