Outline (in English)

History of daily life and environment in European cities from the middle ages to the 20th century.
By examining the historical development of European cities, how the lifeworlds (Lebenswelten) of their inhabitants have changed over time, and how the relationship between humans and the natural environment has changed, we will provide a perspective that will broaden our understanding of the history and cultural uniqueness of urban societies not only in Europe but also in other parts of the world, including Japan.
Students should review using the lecture resume and materials. In addition, students are required to prepare and submit mini-reports on class content twice during the semester.
Reading the literature introduced in class will enhance your understanding of the course content. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
Comprehensive evaluation will be based on two mini-reports (20%) and a written exam at the end of the semester (80%).
