Outline (in English)

Course Outline
Technology and society interact with each other in a complex manner, and various social issues arise from this interaction. The aim of this course is to enable students to consider the background and causes of such issues from the perspectives of both experts and citizens, taking up specific examples. By doing so, students will build a foundation for thinking about how to deal with future social issues related to technology.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
− Explain the social issues brought about by technology, giving specific examples.
− Examine social issues brought about by technology from the perspective of experts and citizens.
− Think critically about the social issues that technology can bring about.

Learning activities outside of classroom
Throughout the course period, please pay attention to the problems brought about by technology based on newspapers, movies, science fiction novels, etc., and consider them as problems that concern you. In addition, please take the time to think about the cases we will discuss in class before and after it, and formulate your own ideas. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Grading Criteria /Policy
Grading will be decided based on in class exam (50%) and in class contribution (50%).
