Outline (in English)

This course is designed for students to learn a brief history of American literature and, through it, to gain insight into various aspects of American culture and society. Not only will students be able to probe into the authors' critical minds evidently articulated in their works, but also into the characteristics of American society during particular periods which are illustrated in the minor themes of their writings. It is expected that students' interest in American literature will grow by learning the impact that American literary works have had on pictures, films, and music of different periods.
At the end of this course, students should be able to explain some characteristics of American literature and culture.
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend 2 hours to understand the course content.
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
The 1st report (30%) and the 2nd report (70%)
