Outline (in English)

We read literary works written in German in Germany (old Germany, East Germany, West Germany, Germany after reunion), Austria and Switzerland. It gives a consideration of the culture constructed in German. In addition, we make references to other cultural areas, thinking about the mechanism of understanding in language use, focusing on the important concepts of interculturality and intertextuality, and analyzing language texts. We analyze texts as an example of cross-cultural understanding and misunderstanding. The workability of literary works will be also analyzed.
☆ We use works published as a Japanese translation. Knowledge of German is not essential. ☆ We read Non-German works (Japanese version) written in other cultures as a contrast.
