Outline (in English)

【Course outline】In this course students will learn about the past and present of Central Asia. To understand Central Asia, students must know its complex history. By doing so, students will gain an understanding of contemporary Central Asian society and culture, as well as international relations, including Russia and China.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of this course, students will be able to 1) explain various matters related to the history and current status of Russia and Central Asian countries, and 2) analyze the similarities and differences between Russia and Central Asia.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Read through the textbook before class. Read through class materials. After class, review the lecture content to deepen understanding.


【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be based on the following:
Final report: 50%, Reflection papers: 50%.
