Outline and objectives

English Application is an integrated 4 skills communication skills course with a focus on an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or English for Specific Purposes (ESP) content area. Students will practice English discourse in a variety of communication modes related to the presentation and discussion of both Japanese and foreign cultural topics. Students will speak on selected topics after consultation with the professor. Following each class time presentation, the student presenter will field questions from the other students in a standard Q&A format.

Goal

The goal of English Application is to give Post-SA students a forum to continue to use and enhance their English Communication skills. The objective of this course is the mastery of the English necessary to adequately present and discuss cultural topics of interest to the students. During each class meeting students will give short lectures related to cultural topics followed by classroom practice of various styles of English discourse.

When the university's Action Policy (Conduct Guideline) Level is 2, this class will be conducted online in principle. Details will be communicated via the Learning Managing System.

During each class meeting students will give short lectures related to cultural topics followed by classroom practice of various styles of English discourse. Students will receive feedback and comments on homework assignments and in class activities throughout the term.

30% Class Participation
Based on the grading criteria set by the instructor, students that successfully achieve 60% or more of course goals will be able to earn a passing grade for the course.
