Outline (in English)

In what ways have modern education and learning been shaped since modernization? This course will help students understand issues related to education and learning in modern and contemporary Japan in the context of changes in the life course, family, gender, etc., and relate them to current issues.
It is desirable for students to have studied Japanese modern and contemporary history at the high school level and to read newspapers on a regular basis. Students are expected to spend approximately one hour before and after each class to understand the class content. Grading will be based on the final exam (50%) and submission of assignments (50%).
