Outline (in English)

Views on child depend on time or region, and therefore what kind of learning is encouraged to children and how to do it is also diverse. For example, in the West and Japan, it is modern time that the school began to play a central role in education.
In this class, based on the history of Western education, we will examine childhood and the education of children, and how the school as a child's learning institution has been established and developed.
Then, we will consider the relations between these histories and childhood, the education and problems they have in our society.
And it is the goal that each of us makes their meanings relative and to gain a perspective to conceive of the future.

After each class, students will be expected to have completed the reaction paper. Your study time will be about four hours for a class.

Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following.
Reports: 60%, Reaction papers: 30%, in class contribution: 10%
