Outline (in English)

・Course Outline: An introduction to the history of western drama. Acting frees the actor's body which is anchored in everyday life and reveals the possibility of a new movement of the body. This course will reconsider how human beings have explored the possibility of body movement. Theatre is always a reflection of culture and society. The class will focus on examining how culture and society of a particular age have influenced the movement of the human body.
・Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to
(1) analyze and describe the history of western drama, (2) examine the different movements of the human body and their social impact, (3) interpret the work of theatre critically and aesthetically.
・Learning activities outside of the classroom: see as many performances as possible. Spend more than four hours per week on this activity as well as preparing and reviewing the course content.
・Grading Criteria/Policy: Class participation 50%, Final paper 50%.
