Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
This class focuses on Chinese characters and Chinese literature. We read literary works from the pre-Qin to the Qing Dynasty, and then analyze them to understand their characteristics.
From ancient times, Chinese people think of Chinese characters as a very noble existence. The basic function of conveying information to others, in addition, there are mysterious abilities. For example, Chinese characters can predict good or bad luck; they also can transform the fate of individuals. In addition, we can easiliy find the intelligent topics which the ancient scholars seriously argued about how to use of Chinese characters.
Through various stories, introduce the true face of the Chinese characters we think are familiar with.


[Learning Objectives]
1. Acquire knowledge about Chinese literature.
2. Understand the development of Chinese history.
3. Understand traditional Chinese ideas.
4. Compare and consider with the culture and literature of other countries including Japan.


[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students should take recovery lessons every time and take the next lesson with a thorough understanding.

Normal score (opinions during class, submissions such as small reports) 40%, final exam or report 60%.
