Outline (in English)

- Course outline
In Introductory Development Economics A, we studied economic development as a process.
In Introductory Development Economics B, we will study trade, finance, and entrepreneurship as factors of economic development.
We will review economics models showing benefits of trade and finance and empirical studies.
- Learning Objectives
Why do East Asian countries have large proportions of trade and financial sectors, while Sub-Saharan Africa have smaller proportions?
The goal of this class is that students will become able to proactively think and discuss economic issues related to developing countries based on economic theories, methods, and data.
- Learning activities outside of classroom
Students will read around 20 pages of texts that form the basis of each lecture slide as a reading assignment before each lecture.
Students will review the contents of the classes and exercises according to their own needs.
The standard time for preparation and review for this class is 2 hours each.
- Grading Criteria, Policies
Grading will be decided based on mid-term exam (40%), end-term exam (40%), and contribution to class (20%).
