Outline (in English)

The aim of this course is to learn about archeology research methods and history.

To be able to explain the process of academic development of archaeology, especially in Japan.
To be able to understand the process of development of archaeological methods.
To be able to understand the relationship between archaeology and related sciences.

Students will understand the methods and ideas of archaeology mainly from the perspective of academic history, and consider the broad historical picture that can be assembled from material culture.
The class will be conducted in a face-to-face lecture format. The class may be conducted on-demand depending on the situation. The distribution of materials, submission of assignments, feedback, etc. will be done through the learning support system and other means. Specifically, students will be asked to submit assignments to the Learning Support Office system, and feedback will be sent back to each student via the Learning Support System. Questions and answers to them will be given in class and via the learning support system. Materials will also be used in class. Students will be able to download and use class handouts from "Hiroaki Furusho's Lecture Notes" (https://wacoffee.blogspot.com/). They are protected, and the protection key will be provided in class.
Students will be asked to submit a small report after each class.

50% of the evaluation will be based on a short report based on in-class assignments, and 50% will be based on the final examination.

An internet environment and a terminal (computer, smart phone, pad, etc.) are required. I will use a learning support system or other means to distribute materials and submit assignments.
