Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This lecture deals with the history of Caribbean Literature. Students will learn famous works and their backgrounds. In reading a series of Caribbean fiction and poems, we learn the very basics of how to read fiction written in English language and, furthermore, a critical attitude to discuss and analyze fiction.

【Learning Objectives】
The objective of this lecture is to get used to thinking about literary works in contrast to history and politics, and to learn complex phenomena involving feminism, migration, race, class---intersectionality in today's nomenclature---through reading fiction.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following.

Term-end exam: 70%
In class contribution and reaction papers: 30%
