Outline (in English)
The purpose of this course is to introduce the major changes in English grammar from Old English to Present-day English.
The goal of this course is to give students the basic knowledge necessary to understand the history of the English language.
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.
Final grades will be calculated according to the following process:
Mid-term report (40%) and in-class contribution (60%)

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
英語がどのようにして世界中で使用されるようになり、世界共通語となってきたかを解説する。また、英語の歴史を学ぶことで、現代の英語に対してさらに理解を深めることを主な目的としている。

英語史における文法変化について説明できるようになる。
英語史における文献をきちんと正確に読めるようになる。

授業は、基本的に教科書に沿って進めていきます。教科書の中で、学生は自分に関心のある章を選び、その内容について発表していく形式です。また、英語で書かれた論文などをわかりやすく発表してもらいます。
リアクションペーパー等における良いコメントは授業内で紹介し、さらなる議論に活かします。
