Outline (in English)

This course aims for students to study Japan of the Meiji era from diverse perspectives, including laws, economy, society, education, and to discuss various issues. The goals of this course are to acquire the ability to organize research history and the technique of criticizing historical materials. Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments before/after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class. Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following; Research presentation: 70%, in class contribution: 30%.
