Outline (in English)

From the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, Japan entered the era of castle construction. Read mainly the letters regarding the construction of the castle during that period, and think about the state of politics and society at that time.

【Goal】
Reading comprehension of letters is an important factor in studying Japanese history in the 16th and 17th centuries, but one of the difficulties is that the letters are basically dated only and do not include the year. Determining the year of a letter is indispensable for accurately grasping its contents, while in order to determine the year of a letter, it is necessary to accurately grasp its contents. The goal of this class is to acquire the basic skills of handling historical materials from the 16th to 17th centuries through reading comprehension of letters on castle construction.
