Outline (in English)

[ Course outline ]
This course deals with the history and central issues of western philosophy. The student will obtain basic knowledge about historical diversity and common universal character of the thinking by major philosophers.
[ Learning Objectives ]
The goals of this course are to
(1) learn basic knowledge about the development and problems of western philosophy.
(2) understand the thought process and concepts of major philosophers.
(3) can consider the meaning of philosophical thinking in conjunction with each student's specialized research.
[ Learning activities outside of classroom ]
Before/ after each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the teaching materials and reference books. Your required study time is at least four hours for each class meeting.
[ Grading Criteria ]
Grading will be decided based on usual performance score (50%), and final paper (50%).
