Outline (in English)

This course provides basic concepts to economic and industrial geography. Topic areas include locational and regional policy, spatial structure and national economic development in Japan. By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
- Evaluate the applicability and importance of economic geography in analyzing economic development;
- Explain, synthesize, and apply key concepts in economic geography;
- Explain the role of historical, environmental, cultural, and other factors in determining economic activities.
After each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Grading will be decided based on term-end presentation (40%), and in-class contribution (60%).
