Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Using archaeological data, we will follow the development process of an ancient Chinese city and consider the characteristics of Chinese cities.
As the text, we used Liu Qingzhu, the editor-in-chief, “The Archaeological Discovery and Research of Ancient Chinese Capital“ first volume. In this term, we read the part of 〝Eastern Zhou period city〟. We would also like to follow the formation process of the city, and consider the problems regarding the “Development of the city and the formation of an ancient state”.
【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course,students should be able to do the followings:
A.Learn how to analyze archaeological data.
B.Understand the formation process of ancient Chinese society.
C.Understand the morphology, function and development of ancient Chinese cities.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before after each class meeting,students will be expected to spend two hours to understand the course content
【Grading Criteria/Policies】
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process Mid-term report 50 % , and in-class contribution 50%
