Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This course aims to develop reading comprehension skills through exercises in the annotated reading of specific texts while introducing reference materials necessary for annotated reading, which is essential for reading and understanding Japanese early modern literature, and to cultivate the insights required for evaluation in literary history.

【Learning Objectives】
The student should decipher the Kuzushiji (manuscript characters) used in the early modern book block-printed books and appropriately annotate words and phrases, especially proper nouns. In this case, the annotations should cover the meaning of the words in the context and clarify what kind of sources the author used. The student should be set up a problem and discuss its place and significance in the history of early modern literature based on the annotated reading of the original text.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
The standard preparation and review time required for this class is two hours each. It is necessary to read the textbook before the course and think about the problem's location based on the research history. because it is impossible to discuss whether the presenter's annotations are acceptable unless you have researched them beforehand.,in addition, you must consider where the problems lie within the scope of the class before coming to class.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
It will be based on the result of the student's presentation and participation in the discussion.
