Outline (in English)

This class reinforces the development of a rich vocabulary and accurate grammatical knowledge, and based on this knowledge, aims at the comprehensive development of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). In the science and engineering fields, English is the common language. Technicians and scientists of the future will need the ability to comprehend and communicate in English to meet the need of society for high levels of English. In order to meet this need, this class emphasizes the development of basic, comprehensive skills and knowledge and the ability to apply them. Based on the needs of students, a variety of effective approaches will be used to strengthen basic English competency.

Students will develop and practice speaking, listening, reading and writing English communication skills through a variety of everyday topics. By the end of the course, students will feel more comfortable using general English and be able to express themselves more fluently and confidently.

The development and practice of useful grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and functional language will be a regular feature of the course. Pair work and small group work will be emphasized. English will be used as the medium for instruction at all times.

Whole-class feedback (error correction related to grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation) will be given after each speaking activity or near the end of each class using the black board.

Students will also receive individual written feedback and error correction on writing assignments.

Students are also provided written feedback and error correction following the mid-term and final speaking examinations.
