Outline (in English)

The purpose of public health is to protect people from disease, to preserve and promote health, and to enable people to develop fully and to reach their full physical and mental health status.
In this course, students will learn about mental illness and be able to take appropriate care of their own mental health.
Learning Objectives: Students will learn about mental illnesses so that they can maintain their own mental stability and be sensitive to the condition of not only themselves but also those around them, such as family, colleagues, and friends. Through learning about the symptoms, students will be able to recognize mental illnesses at an early stage.
Students will learn how to change their mindset in order to maintain mental health.
Students will gain knowledge on how to prevent and improve mental illness through nutritional therapy.
Through the lectures, students will aim to prevent mental illness (prevention, early detection and treatment, and reintegration into society), as well as to remove prejudices prevalent in Japanese society.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Review after the lecture. Students are expected to read newspapers with an awareness of related topics. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
Grading Policy: Evaluation will be based on the report to be submitted at the end of the term (100%).
