Outline (in English)

Public health is the science and art of preventing disease and promoting human health. The history of public health began with the prevention of infectious diseases and developed into the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases, and establishing the relationship between causation and one’s living environment. Moreover, the science of public health has extended into the epidemiology of health, and studies to establish the policies that encourage health maintenance and improvement.In this course, students will learn the basic concepts of preventive medicine and will acquire the knowledge on various health-related issues that are latent in modern society. The aim of the course is to raise health awareness and to acquire the skills necessary for individuals to manage their own health.

Learning Objectives
Students will learn about the realities of various health problems and think about the health behaviors required from younger age. For example, students will learn what happens to their bodies when they consume alcohol, which is often a problem in their daily lives, and will be able to think about specific ways to develop healthy behaviors to prevent problems related to drinking. By accumulating these lessons, students will be able to prevent future diseases and extend their healthy life expectancy.

Learning activities outside of classroom
Review after the lecture. Students are expected to read newspapers with an awareness of related topics. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.

Grading Policy
Evaluation will be based on the report to be submitted at the end of the term (100%).
